Statewide Outcomes

Statewide Outcomes | BBBS Association of Florida

Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida leads statewide efforts to improve youth outcomes through evidence-based mentoring programs. Below are the core outcomes we track across all participating BBBS agencies in Florida.

Academic Success

Increasing Graduation Rates and Academic Performance through One-to-One Mentoring

We measure academic success across Florida by tracking school attendance, grade improvement, on-time grade progression, and graduation rates. Our agencies are partnered with over 350+ schools statewide, creating strong community connections that support student growth. Through one-to-one mentoring relationships, students build essential academic skills, set meaningful goals, and gain confidence. These connections increase school engagement and reduce dropout rates among low-performing youth. Statewide data confirms that students in our programs are more likely to stay in school and achieve academic success, thanks to consistent, individualized support.

Breaking the Cycle

Preventing Juvenile Justice Involvement through Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents

We monitor key indicators (such as arrests, school disciplinary actions, and risk of recidivism) to evaluate the impact of mentoring youth with incarcerated family members. Early intervention through trusted, long-term mentoring relationships helps break cycles of incarceration by building resilience, self-esteem, and responsible decision-making. Youth in our Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents (MCIP) program consistently demonstrate positive behavioral outcomes and reduced involvement with the juvenile justice system. These data-driven results help BBBS deliver evidence-based solutions to keep youth safe and supported.

Economic Impact

Building Florida’s Future Workforce through Mentorship and Career Readiness

We measure economic empowerment through outcomes such as post-secondary enrollment, career interest development, and job-readiness skill development. The Big Futures program prepares high school students for Florida’s evolving workforce by pairing them with mentors in real-world professional environments. Youth explore career paths, participate in job shadowing, and receive personal guidance from industry professionals. These experiences increase confidence, drive goal-setting, and expand access to higher education, creating a clear pathway to economic mobility. Through partnerships with leading employers including the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, Florida Power & Light, Coke Florida, and Farah & Farah, students enrolled in mentoring programs gain access to scholarships for college, university, and vocational training.

This program is funded in part by the Florida Department of Commerce.

Safe & Supportive Communities

Strengthening Community Trust and Youth Engagement through First Responder Mentoring

We track outcomes related to youth perceptions of law enforcement, feelings of safety, and sense of community trust. Our agencies are partnered with over 60+ law enforcement organizations statewide to strengthen these connections. Through Bigs in Blue/Bigs with Badges, youth are matched with first responders, such as police officers, firefighters, active military, and veterans who serve as consistent mentors and role models. These relationships foster trust, improve conflict resolution skills, and build a sense of belonging. Participating youth report greater respect for public safety professionals and demonstrate stronger civic engagement, helping to create safer and more connected communities.

This program is funded in part by the Office of the Florida Attorney General.
