BBBS Florida Sponsors 2025 FFAC Conference in Jacksonville

Be the Mentor You Wish You Had — BBBS & Alpha Phi Alpha

Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida is excited to announce our role as a Bronze Sponsor at the 2025 Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters (FFAC) Conference in Jacksonville on October 17–18, 2025. This conference is a powerful opportunity to celebrate our national partnership with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. while building stronger local connections across Florida. Together, we can create more pathways for young Black boys to access the mentorship they deserve.

About the Partnership

The BBBSA–Alpha Phi Alpha partnership began in 1990 to amplify one-to-one mentoring for young Black males and to increase representation of Black men serving as mentors. In recent years that collaboration has been reinvigorated with a renewed focus on expanding Black male mentor recruitment and creating partnerships tailored to the needs of local BBBS agencies and Alpha chapters.

Why This Partnership Matters

Mentorship works best when matches last — and representation helps matches endure. Research from BBBS affiliates has shown that Black mentees matched with Black mentors are significantly more likely to sustain their relationship. That means more consistent support, better outcomes, and stronger communities. Alpha Phi Alpha brothers bring leadership, service, and a powerful network of role models that can close gaps in access and opportunity for Florida youth.

How Alpha Chapters Can Engage Locally

We welcome chapters across Florida to partner with their local BBBS agency. Some of the most effective pathways include:

  • Mentorship Engagement: Brothers can become one-to-one Bigs, participate in group mentoring, or support existing mentoring cohorts focused on boys of color.
  • Community Engagement: Co-host service events like Back-to-School drives, career panels, or Big for a Day events that reach matched and waitlist youth and families.
  • Organizational Leadership: Serve as volunteers, ambassadors, board members, or advisors to strengthen agency governance and programming.

Programs We Can Customize

Every chapter is unique. We work with Alpha chapters to design programs that reflect your legacy, priorities, and capacity. Examples include integrating chapter youth initiatives into BBBS programming, launching targeted pilots like men-of-tomorrow mentorship tracks, or creating joint community service campaigns that spotlight both organizations’ missions.

2025 FFAC Conference — Jacksonville

We invite all Alpha Phi Alpha brothers to stop by the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida table at the FFAC Conference on October 17–18, 2025. As a Bronze Sponsor, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida will be representing the association on-site to meet chapter members and explore customized partnership ideas. We’d love to connect with Alphas across the state to build steady pipelines of mentorship and service.
